Initial Questions for a contractor
•How long have they been in business?

•What is their current backlog?

•Are they fully insured?

•Do they provide design work (if needed)

•Have they done similar projects, often

Contractor Check List

•Was the Contractor/Salesperson on time?                                         

•Was their appearance neat and professional?                                   

•Was their vehicle presentable?                                                           

•Did they listen to your ideas, and ask questions?                                

•Did they suggest options / alternatives / ideas?                                  

•Do they have insurance (Liability & Workman’s comp.)                  

•How many years have they been in business?                                   

•Are they members in any trade or other organizations?                

•Are they certified?  (If applicable)                                                           

•Do they have a website for more information?                                 

•Do you feel comfortable with them?                                                    

Reference Check List

•Is the Contractor related to you?                                                             

•Were the Contractor, crew, sub-contractors polite and courteous?

•Was the Contractor and their crew respectful of your family, property and possessions?

•Was the project completed in a timely manner?                               

•Was the jobsite left clean and neat as possible at the end of each day?

•Were you comfortable leaving the crew alone in your home?

•What type of project was done? (bathroom, roof, etc.)                

•If you had changes were they made willingly?                                   

•Were changes documented in writing?                                 

•If you had a complaint, were they handled willingly?                      

• And to your satisfaction?                                                                            

•Did the completed project meet your expectations?                      

•Was their contract specific and complete?                                           

•Were all the terms of the contract met fully?                                     

•Was the contract amount, the same amount charged?                 

•If not, was it due to change order you had asked for?                  

•Would you hire them again? Why or why not?
